Astronomy/Campout

On the evening of Saturday, June 27, two great activities are rolled together in Ridley Creek State Park. As part of the Great American Backyard Campout, the park's Environmental Education Program will host a campfire and overnight camping. Also, volunteers from the Chester County Astronomical Society will host a star party with discussions and telescopes. You can attend all three events (campfire, stargazing, and overnight camping), or just pick the ones you like. See below for more information.

Star Gazing Program
Area 11
June 27, 9pm-11pm

2009 marks the International Year of Astronomy as 400 years ago Galileo and Kepler made their amazing discoveries. We are please to announce that the Chester County Astronomical Society will be hosting an observing event on June 27, 2009 at Ridley Creek State Park during the Great American Backyard Campout.

Members of the CCAS will have their telescopes set up and pointed at various interesting objects in the sky. The moon with be visible, as will Saturn, clusters, double stars, and maybe even a meteor or a passing satellite. It promises to be an interesting and educational event. Should the weather be cloudy, some members of the CCAS will be there to talk about astronomy topics of interest, including the different types of telescopes, and how to find one that will work well for a beginner.
