40 Mile Challenge

THE 40 MILE CHALLENGE IN RIDLEY CREEK STATE PARK

Keep track of your miles with this Challenge Log

Celebrate the 40th anniversary of Ridley as a state park by hiking 40+ miles in the park by Sunday, October 21st – that is the date of our 40th anniversary celebration at the Mansion, free to the public!

The Challenge is sponsored by the Friends of Ridley Creek State Park, an all-volunteer non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve, protect, and enhance the natural resources and beauty of the park. Look us up at our website www.FriendsofRCSP.org.

All you need to do is register in one of two places:

  1. on www.MeetUp.com by joining the group “Ridley Creek Hikers”
    OR
  2. by clicking to send an email to our VP.
Then print out the Challenge Log, decide when and where you will hike between Sunday, August 12 and Sunday, October 21, and fill out the log as you go along. Bring it to the Mansion for our award ceremony. There will be certificates and prizes given out for the people who achieve the 40 miles, and your name will be inscribed on a decorative poster and placed on the Friends bulletin board on the Multi-Use Trail.

Many other activities and events will be taking place on Sunday, October 21, including: tours of the Mansion, exhibits from other groups that are active in the park (for example, Colonial Plantation, Chester-Ridley-Crum Watershed Association), historical display and talks, 40th anniversary mementos, refreshments, a birthday cake, and more! Check our website for the latest information on schedules and events.

For questions, contact Harry Pyle (Ridley Creek Hiker’s Organizer in MeetUp) or Joan Nikelsky (Vice-President, Friends of Ridley Creek State Park). The Friends voicemail phone number is 484-442-0223.
